Thrive Study Week 4 - The How of Learning to Thrive

Jun 4, 2023    Oluseye Ashiru

It is week 4 of our THRIVE DEVOTIONAL SERIES.

And it gives me great joy to welcome you again to this week’s episode.

In the last week we started off the discussion on GETTING THE RIGHT EDUCATION TO THRIVE

To thrive, we must immerse ourselves in LEARNING & GETTING SKILLED in the right things,

We established how learning happens and we spoke about the 4 pillars of learning.

If we must step into the fullness of what we have been called for and to flourish in our God given assignment then we must identify the gaps in our learning and truly move forward to equip ourselves in those areas.

And so this week we build on that and we will take it further and speak on the ways that we can subject ourselves to the process of learning and tutelage.

1. Through Wise Company : Proverbs 13:20 says “He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

One of the best ways through which active learning takes place is to surround ourselves with the right kinds of relationships that can sharpen us and help us to grow. And this is category, we can look at learning from different categories of people - mentors, peers, coaches and those whose lives can influence us on various ways

2. Through the Body of Existing Knowledge: books, videos, podcasts, and other kinds of materials that have been published on whatever subject matter we have come to identify as the gap we are trying to bridge or in the area we desire to grow in. Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth. - 2 Timothy 2:15.

We must study to show that we are capable to handling the assignments that God has given to us.

3. Through Intentional & Systematic learning system; this is where we deliberately seek out courses, trainings, opportunities to up-skill in a formal and systematic way. This form of learning is important because when we allow ourselves to be exposed to and undergo formal training, it has a way of sticking with us and ensuring that we acquire the wisdom we need to grow and become complete in the areas of our assignment.

4. Through Constant Practice - the more you do and practise what you are learning the more you reinforce your learning and grow through your experiences. We often learn better when we are acting out and being fully involved in the learning process through practise.

5. Teaching to others- another way that we allow our learning to be complete is when we r teach what we are learning to others around us. Find someone else you who also needs the same learning that is happening with you, and pour into them through through teaching them.

These are just some of the ways that we can expose ourselves to learning and letting education take place for us to FLOURISH and THRIVE in our God given assignments.

So the question now should be, how do we ensure that we subject ourselves to this learning process through these different methods and ways that can help us to skill up?

- Understand that learning is a continuous process and adopt a mindset of lifetime learning. It’s here to stay forever

- Create a regular structure of learning in your life, by creating a schedule and system through which you feed your soul, mind and spirit on a regular basis

- Make room for learning in your life. Schedule your learning on your calendar and stick with it through reminders and whatever means necessary

- Keep yourself accountable to the learning process by checking and evaluating your growth in different areas of your life

I am sure you will agree with me that nothing good comes without us cultivating and making room for them to happen in our lives, we must invest in our learning and growth if we will thrive and flourish as we should.

Until next time when we start off another conversation around Accountability, keep growing and thriving as God desires for you.

Have a great and blessed week. Keep yourself in God’s word.
