Nourish Your Soul – Feeding Your Spirit as a Kingdom Mom

Hey, Kingdom Moms!

So, last time we talked about the importance of rest. And if you took me seriously (and I hope you did!), you’re probably feeling a little more rested and rejuvenated by now. But here’s the thing: rest alone isn’t enough. Sure, we need sleep and quiet moments, but we also need spiritual nourishment to thrive in this crazy, beautiful calling of motherhood. Just like we need to feed our bodies to stay healthy, we need to feed our spirits to stay strong in the Lord.

But here’s the kicker: We often neglect our spiritual nourishment. We pour into our kids, our husbands, our homes, our jobs—and then wonder why we’re feeling drained, depleted, and spiritually hungry. And guess what? That’s totally normal. But it’s also totally fixable.

The Problem: Spiritual Hunger

Let’s get real. When was the last time you had a solid, uninterrupted quiet time with God? You know, the kind where you could actually hear His voice over the noise of your kids, the laundry, and the to-do lists? If you’re like me, that feels like a distant memory. But here’s the truth: your soul is hungry, and only God can fill that deep hunger.

Psalm 42:1-2 says, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” Does that resonate with you? I know it does for me. As moms, we can get so caught up in the daily grind that we forget how desperately our souls long for time with God.

But here's the thing—God didn’t design us to run on empty. He made us to be filled and sustained by Him, so we can pour into others. It's all about the right kind of fuel.

Why You Need Spiritual Nourishment

Why does this matter so much? Because, Kingdom Mom, you are doing important work. You are raising the next generation, investing in the hearts of your kids, loving your husband, and serving your community. And that work requires spiritual strength. Without it, we burn out. Without it, we get bitter and impatient. Without it, we forget that the God of the universe is with us in the mundane, the messy, and the magnificent.

Romans 12:1-2 tells us that we are to offer our bodies as living sacrifices and renew our minds through God’s Word. We can’t do that if we’re spiritually starving! But when we make time to feast on God’s Word, our hearts are refreshed, our perspectives are realigned, and we are equipped for the tasks ahead.

How to Nourish Your Soul (Even When You’re Busy)

Let’s face it—life is hectic. Between school runs, playdates, meal prep, and everything in between, how can you possibly fit in spiritual nourishment? Well, let’s talk about some practical, yet powerful ways to feed your soul.

  1. Start with Short, Sweet Moments
You don’t need hours to spend time with God. If you’re short on time, start with 5 minutes of prayer and a Bible verse. Choose one verse each day and meditate on it. That’s it! It could be a verse about peace, strength, or God’s love for you. Let it sink into your spirit, and carry it with you through the day. You’d be amazed how much power is packed into just a few minutes of intentional time with God.
  2. Get Creative with Your Quiet Time
I know—quiet time when you have kids can feel like a joke. But you can be creative! Listen to worship music while folding laundry. Pray while you’re in the car (I’m sure your kids won’t mind!). Turn on a podcast that encourages your soul while you make dinner. These little moments can still help you connect with God without adding more pressure to your schedule.
  3. Join a Bible Study or Group
Community is key, friends. It’s so much easier to stay spiritually nourished when you’re in a group of like-minded women who can encourage you. Whether it’s a small group at church, a Bible study on Zoom, or a mom’s group—find people to do life with. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together.” We need each other to stay spiritually strong!
  4. Pray with Your Family
Family prayer time isn’t just for church or a special occasion—it’s a powerful way to nourish your spirit and your family’s. Pray with your spouse, your kids, or even in your car while driving them to school. Ask God to strengthen you, give you wisdom, and fill you with His peace. Your prayers will not only nurture your soul, but also create an atmosphere of faith in your home.
  5. Go Beyond the “To-Do” List and Focus on the “Be-Do” List
As moms, we’re always focusing on what we need to do—but what about focusing on who we need to be? Spend time reading scriptures that remind you of your identity in Christ. Speak truth over your life, like “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) or “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Reminding yourself of God’s promises and truths will nourish your spirit and help you embrace the day with confidence.

The Benefits of Nourishment: A Transformed Heart

When we start to regularly feed our souls, something beautiful happens. We become transformed. Not just in the way we look, but in the way we approach life. The way we parent. The way we love. The way we handle stress. The way we walk through our days.
Psalm 1:2-3 says, “But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” Nourishment leads to a fruitful, prosperous life—one that overflows with love, peace, joy, and strength.

When we take the time to nourish our souls, we’re not only growing closer to God—we’re becoming the women, wives, and moms that He has called us to be. So, let’s make spiritual nourishment a priority in our busy, beautiful lives.

Challenge:
Take five minutes today (yes, just five!) to meditate on a Bible verse or pray. Let it be the start of a new habit of feeding your soul. You deserve it.

In the next blog, we’re diving into the power of prayer and how to strengthen your connection with God—especially when you’re feeling too tired to pray. Stay tuned!
