Love Languages

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth”.

– 1 John 3:18 KJV

Have you ever thought of how your child loves you? There are times when I get angry with my child because she did the wrong thing but even in this anger, when she smiles or hugs me, my heart melts. Like did she forget I just shouted at her or probably spanked her, yet, she loves me just the same. This how Christ wants us to love…not just in word but even in our actions.

I am certain that by now, we are all used to the 5 love languages: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time and Physical Touch.

Are we always expecting that our spouses show us love based on what we think is love or we allow our spouses love us the way Christ has taught them to love?

As much as these love languages are very important in marriage, we should never allow them limit us in how we express love to our spouses.

As stated in our previous week’s study, you need to be able to communicate what makes you happier if he does it. Notice I said “happier”…this means that you appreciate the efforts he puts in to always make you happy but acting on your love language would be the icing on the cake for you.

This act would make your husband always want to make you happier because he knows you appreciate the way he loves you, yet, he has a deeper understanding of the “extra” he needs to do to make his wife happy.

Don’t just dwell on your own love languages alone, also take out time to understand what love means to him and be willing to adjust where necessary even if it is not your “thing”. Remember, it takes two to tango.

How quick are you to compliment his new hair cut or his beards when they are neatly shaved? Do you give random hugs, or you would rather wait till you are on the bed? Naah. How often do you buy him gifts or would you rather wat till it is Father’s Day? No sis…we also need to up our love game.

As you reflect on this, think of something you know your husband loves so much but you haven’t done in a while for him? Let’s add some spice to our marriages today and get some fresh fire burning.

I pray that the Lord will give us a fresh understanding of what love is in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Think Over it.

What is God saying to me today?
