Forgiveness
“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” – Ephesians 4:32 KJV
Being able to forgive and let go of past hurts is a very key ingredient of any successful marriage. Will your husband annoy you? Oh yes. Will there be things you both don’t agree on? Yes, a million and one things.
A lot of things might come up that would piss you off but dear sis, you need to forgive 70x7 times a day just like Jesus said.
The ability to forgive your spouse when he wrongs you is not just needed for your marriage to thrive, but it is also needed for you to keep yourself healthy both physically and emotionally.
There may be times when your spouse hurts you more than you could ever imagine and forgiveness seems impossible. You can’t run away from this, give it time but be open to forgiveness so you allow your heart heal. An unforgiving heart only kills the soul and the body.
Forgiveness does not dwell on past hurts; it is letting go and letting God. Forgiveness is a form of love in action. Your spouse most likely has the power to hurt you more than anyone else because you value everything that comes from him.
So even when someone else does something silly, you can easily wave it off but when your husband does that same thing, it can get you upset. When we forgive, we extend the Christlike love to our spouses.
For forgiveness to happen, you must learn to always acknowledge that you were hurt. So many times, we like to shrug things off even when deep inside of us, we got offended. Express yourself to show how hurt you were and when your husband apologizes, go ahead to forgive. This simple act would take a whole lot off your chest and make you feel lighter.
At any point in time when you find it difficult to forgive your spouse, pray. God knows and understands your every pain and he will definitely give you the strength to take that bold step of forgiveness.
Are you holding any grudge against your husband? Now is the time to take that step to let go. Pray and ask for strength from the Holy Spirit and I pray that peace is restored to every broken home in Jesus’ name. Amen.
