Self – Appraisal
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." – Galatians 5:22-23
In her book – Becoming Mrs. Better Half, Holly Furtick says – “Real change comes when I realize that the only person I can change is me.”
And just like periodic check-ups with your doctors help to spot potential health problems. Taking out time to reflect on your marriage and do a self-appraisal can help you spot gray areas and blind spots in your marriage.
Make out time today to do a self-appraisal as regards your marriage. Here are some quick self-evaluation questions to help you in your reflection time. As you answer the questions, be true to yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to help you become a better partner to your spouse.
Am I focusing more on my spouse’s flaws and negative attributes?
Am I shining the light of Christ through my words and actions in my marriage?
What can I do in my life to make being married to me easier?
How can I better deal with my own negative emotions and energy?
What is holding me back from loving my spouse unconditionally?
Is my past hindering growth in my marriage? Are my past experiences stopping me from enjoying intimacy with my spouse?
What are those parts of my personality and character that I need to work on?
How can I take care of myself better so that I can give my best to my marriage?
What fruits am I bearing in my marriage? Am I patient and do I have self-control?
How do I react in times of conflict and disagreement?
