A few years ago, I was at work when my phone rang. On the other end was a friend, tired and frustrated. Her voice was heavy with the weight of a life and family that weren’t turning out the way she had envisioned. She felt lost and overwhelmed, unsure of how to raise her children the way she believed they should be raised.
She had a picture in her mind—a vision of what her life and family could be—but she had no idea how to get there. So, we talked. For a very long time. I listened, I encouraged, and I shared advice, but deep down, I knew that one conversation wouldn’t solve her problem.
